Editorial Review of The Law and the Lady
Wilkie Collins was an English novelist, poet, and playwright writing in the mid 19th century. His was very popular; writing 27 novels, 50 short stories, 15 plays and over 100 poems. His best-known works were The Woman in White, The Moonstone and Armadale. In The Law and the Lady Valerie marries Eustice despite his family's objections. A few days after the wedding Valerie discovers her husband has a false name and is hiding a dark secret. Their honeymoon is curtailed and when they return to London Valerie discovers her husband was on trial for the murder by poison of his first wife. The Scottish court found him "not proven" which means he probably committed the crime but there was not enough evidence to convict him. Valerie tries to prove her husband's innocence so they can return to their happy life.
